Hope, Arkansas: On Thursday, September 18th 6pm at the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope, the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality is holding a public hearing regarding the air permit for the proposed coal plant in southwest Arkansas. The hearing will focus on recent changes in federal regulations concerning mercury emissions as well as have time for public comment. Prior to the hearing (5:30pm) citizens from throughout the state will join together in front of the university library to voice their opposition to this coal plant. Following this press event the group will enter the hearing where they will participate in the public comment portion of the ADEQ hearing. Car pools have been organized in cities across the state and local citizens from the region will be present to speak about this issue. There will be live “no coal” music played prior to and after the press event. Volunteers will be holding posters and wearing “no coal” t-shirts.
